IRVINE, CALIF. - The annual PBR Tournaments California Summer Championships continued on Friday with a few teams in the loaded field looking to separate themselves in their respective brackets after convincing wins on Day One. As we move towards bracket play on Sunday, we anticipated many standout performances and that’s exactly what we got on Day Two of the tournament. Below are a handful of the Day Two standouts from the PBRT California Summer Championships. Josh Hollis Hollis has had a fantastic summer for Legacy Baseball Group and that continued in his start in this tournament where he was virtually unhittable early before going 4.2 IP with five strikeouts, no walks, and scattering four hits in the latter half of the outing. Shows a loose and easy arm action that he’s able to repeat. Worked mid-80’s with the fastball with what can become a banger slider at 68-69 mph. Threw the changeup late and it’s as good as expected at 73-74 mph with late fading action to lefties. Cade Goldstein The left-handed hitting catcher put together quite the day at the plate going a combined 3-for-5 with 2 runs, 5 RBI, and a walk. No hit was bigger than the three-run walk off winner in Game Two in which Goldstein attacked early on a fastball in and barreledup a ball that beat the centerfielder. Catch-and-throw is above average for a sophom*ore in high school, and he shows the signs of a leader of the infield and good communicator with his pitchers. ‘25 C Cade Goldstein of @hwbaseball/@LegacyBBGroup continues his hot summer with a knock in the 1st. Aggressive hacks at the dish. Quick, slightly uppercut barrel path. @PBR_California @PBRTournaments @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/GxRCJ3NDV7 Jordan Marian Marian, a switch-hitting infielder from JSerra, showed plenty of tools that will undoubtedly have the attention of evaluators. Very smart base runner who can steal a bag and reads BINGO very well. Shows an aptitude for playing third base with enough arm strength to stick there. But it’s at the plate where he’s made noise from both sides. While he shows strength from both sides, from the left it appears a more fluid, almost natural, swing with more ability to manipulate the barrel. ‘25 INF Jordan Marian of @JSerraLionsBB/@LegacyBBGroup powers this ball through the left side for a knock. Long, lean frame w/room for more. Another in line for Lions. @PBR_California @PBRTournaments @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/BdKp1d0oAx Chris Downs Downs was flat out nasty at times during his complete game 3-hit shutout where he didn’t allow a walk while striking out seven. At 6-foot-7 200-pounds, Downs is a lot to contend with on the mound and with his arsenal working on this day he was downright good. Working mainly 84-85 mph with the FB, Downs touched 87 mph on a few occasions mainly when working in on righties. Shows feel for the changeup at 74 mph while the slider shows late, hard tilt. Tunnels all of his pitches from the same 3/4 slot. ‘23 LHP Chris Downs of @hart_baseball/@PlayaVOrioles has been very good through 3IP with 3 K’s 1 BB and 1 hit. Working 84-85 FB 73-75 CH w/weak contact (except H) throughout. @PBR_California @JoeyCohen20 pic.twitter.com/7NbgYG1XIo Cole Strane The 2025 shortstop from JSerra put together quite the day for Legacy Baseball Group with a three-hit day in the double header to go with outstanding defense at shortstop. For Strane, it is more of the same of what he showed at PBR NPI Tournament in June, meaning he's been playing good baseball all summer. Shows quick hands with crisp feet on the dirt and that hand quickness translates at the plate. Solid build at 5-10 160 with plenty of room to grow from a height and strength perspective. ‘25 SS Cole Strane of @JSerraLionsBB/@LegacyBBGroup pieces this one up for an RBI knock to LCF. Quick hands through the zone w/sneaky pop. Made two very good plays at SS moving to his left earlier in inning. @PBR_California @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/b8O3uoRl0f Kaysen Raineri The junior-to-be at Great Oak has put together a nice little start to his tournament with a 2-for-5 showing with a pair of runs scored and a walk. Works the lower half into his swing very well and shows the bat speed and control to do some damage when he connects. There’s quickness to his game with a controlled aggression type swing/approach to hitting. ‘24 Kaysen Raineri keeps his hands inside for a single to right pic.twitter.com/2K9km7CQo5 Ryder Young The senior to be at San Dimas had himself a heck of a bounceback day after scuffling at the plate yesterday. Young squared up two balls to the gaps including one for an RBI. Patiently aggressive is probably the best way to describe Young who offers positional versatility in the INF and OF with enough arm for either. ‘23 Ryder Young with a double to the gap. Smooth swing. SoCal Bombers 2023 pic.twitter.com/aasVgqd7gI Mason Tymic Deception and funk that’s what you’re getting with Tymic, that and a pretty quick arm through release. Tymic worked down in the zone early and often with this fastball/curveball(slider) combo getting up to 85 in the second en route to nine strikeouts against only three walks over four innings. There’s more to it than the deception, despite the moving parts Tymic repeats his landing and release points and because of the lower release point the curveball tunnels off the fastball very well. Intriguing first look at ‘25 RHP Mason Tymic of South Torrance/@TB_SoCalTeams. Working 82-84 early with a slider at 69-71. Lots of funk and moving parts add to the deception. @PBR_California @ShooterHunt @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/wJcrX9CX7k Gavin Kramer The OF/INF from Linfield Christian HS has peaked interest in the box where the bat speed appears to be real after starting 3-for-6 through two games. There’s some whippiness to the barrel through the zone with the hand speed to match. Solid defensive player both in the infield and the outfield where his instincts really standout. ‘25 Gavin Kramer with good barrel for a single.
